2. On-device or uploaded?
This is the one people don’t think to check, and on a phone it matters more than on a desktop — the camera roll is personal in a way a work folder usually isn’t.
Cloud processing uploads your file to someone’s server. That allows larger models and spares your battery, and it means your photos and videos are sitting on third-party infrastructure under whatever retention terms you didn’t read.
On-device processing keeps the file on your phone. It works in airplane mode, there’s no upload to worry about, and there’s no server cost to fund with ads.
For personal content the trade is usually straightforward. Worth checking before you put family photos through anything.
3. Does it handle video watermarks that move?
Static marks are easy. Plenty of real-world ones aren’t — TikTok’s logo alternates corners specifically to defeat simple removal, and various editing apps drift their mark across the frame.
A tool offering only one removal region for the whole clip will clean part of your video and leave the rest marked. What’s needed is support for multiple areas across the timeline, one per position.
Also worth checking: whether the app keeps reconstruction consistent between frames. Genuinely worth trying first for a corner logo. There’s no reconstruction, so there are no artefacts to worry about.
There’s no built-in way to reconstruct the middle of an image on iOS, so anything beyond cropping needs a third-party app.
The case where you need no removal at all
If your video came from TikTok or Sora 2, don’t remove anything.
Both watermark at export while keeping an unmarked master. A share link fetches that original directly — no AI, no reconstruction, no quality loss, and typically a higher bitrate than the in-app download.
