Short answer

Logos are usually opaque, which means nothing of the original survives underneath and the area must be generated purely from surrounding context. Static corner logos over texture come off cleanly. Animated logos, logos over faces, and logos over readable text are much harder.

Logos behave differently from watermarks, and the difference is worth understanding before you start — it explains why some come off invisibly and others leave a mark.

Opaque changes the problem

A typical watermark is semi-transparent. It’s blended with the image beneath, so every affected pixel holds a weighted mixture of watermark and original content. The original signal is attenuated but still present, and a good tool can partly invert that blend to recover a genuine approximation.

A typical logo — a channel bug, a brand mark, a corner badge — is opaque. It replaces the pixels completely. Nothing survives.

That last row is counterintuitive and worth knowing. On a static shot, the patched region sits in exactly the same place for the whole clip, so any imperfection has time to be noticed. On footage with camera movement the reconstruction changes constantly and small errors are much harder to spot.

Logos that move or animate

Plenty of logos don’t hold still:

Any of these defeats a single fixed removal region. What works is segmenting the timeline: split at each point the logo changes, then define a removal area per segment.

For a fade specifically, the mark is semi-transparent at low opacity during the transition. Those frames are actually easier — more original signal survives — but they still need covering, or you get a ghost logo flickering at the segment boundary.

Steps

  1. Start from the best source you have. This is pure reconstruction; context is the raw material.
  2. Select the logo plus a small margin. Logos usually have anti-aliased edges, and a tight selection leaves a faint halo.
  3. Segment if it moves or animates.
  4. Process, then review full screen at normal speed. Check for shimmer — a sign that frames were reconstructed independently rather than consistently.
  5. Export at maximum quality.

The shimmer problem

Worth repeating because it’s the main thing that separates good video tools from bad ones.

Each frame gets its own reconstruction, and each is plausible in a slightly different way. Pause and every frame looks perfect. Play it and the patched area shimmers or crawls, because the generated content shifts frame to frame.

Tools that handle video properly condition each frame on its neighbours to keep the fill stable. Tools that run a photo inpainter over every frame produce the shimmer — and it’s completely invisible in any before/after still, which is why nobody’s marketing page shows it.

When cropping is the better answer

Genuinely worth considering for corner logos.

If the mark sits in a corner and the shot has room to spare, cropping it out is lossless for everything that remains — no reconstruction, no shimmer, no failure modes. You lose framing and some resolution.

For vertical social video that’s about to be cropped by the platform anyway, this is often the pragmatic choice. Worth trying before reaching for AI.
